Carroll Hospital understands the importance of your child's health. We have experienced pediatricians on our medical staff with offices located throughout the county, so you can count on excellent medical care for your child wherever you live. When an emergency arises, we offer specialized pediatric emergency care in our Emergency Department.
Pediatric Unit
Parents never want to imagine their child in a hospital, however, if the need arises, you can rest assured that Carroll Hospital’s Pediatric Unit will be ready. The Pediatric Unit employs a multidisciplinary staff trained in the medical, emotional and developmental needs of children.
Pediatric Hospitalist Program
Specializing in hospital-based services, our pediatric hospitalists are board-certified or board-eligible pediatricians dedicated to providing care for hospitalized newborns, children and their families 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
What pediatric hospitalists do
At Carroll Hospital, your child’s pediatric hospitalist will visit him or her throughout the day, primarily to:
- Coordinate treatment
- Monitor your child's progress
- Review test results
- Order changes to treatment, if needed
- Answer any questions concerning your child's illness, treatment options and recovery
Collaborating with your child's primary care physician
During your child’s stay, we will work closely with your pediatrician or family practitioner and keep him or her informed of your child’s status.
The family member's role
Family members are an important part of the treatment team. Please discuss any issues or concerns you may have about your child’s care with his or her pediatric hospitalist at any time during your child's stay.
After discharge
Once discharged, your child will return to the care of his or her primary care physician. At discharge, he or she will be well aware of your child’s condition, treatment, health status and discharge plan.
If your child does not have a primary care physician, your child's nurse will be happy to give you a referral to one of our affiliated physicians or to a physician of your choice. You also may call the Carroll Hospital physician referral line at 410-871-7000, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday or search our directory.

Pediatric Emergency Care
We understand that few things are as stressful as taking your child to the Emergency Department.
Our Emergency Department is staffed with board-certified pediatricians during peak hours each day to provide your child with quality, compassionate medical care.
In the rare instances when a child has been sexually assaulted, our Pediatric S.A.F.E. Program provides a safe, comfortable environment in which to treat and investigate the incident.
Pediatric S.A.F.E. Program
Our Pediatric Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner (S.A.F.E.) program provides a safe, comfortable environment for sexual assault victims under age 13 to receive the medical care and emotional support they need. Carroll Hospital also provides an Adult SAFE program for those ages 13 and older.
Pediatric Surgery
Carroll Hospital's experienced surgical team can perform most general surgical procedures that your child may need. We have pediatric-trained anesthesia providers, and, in many cases, we permit parents to accompany their child to the operating room.
