An acute rehabilitation center within Sinai Hospital, the Rehabilitation Hospital is designed to assist patients with adaptation to the functional challenges they are experiencing. These challenges may be the result of elective surgery or unplanned traumatic occurrences, including strokes, brain injuries, orthopedic surgeries or occurrences, amputation, pulmonary, multiple traumas, chronic pain or spine conditions.
The Rehabilitation Hospital’s multidisciplinary approach begins with evaluation and the establishment of a care plan. The hospital is designed to provide medical management 24/7, and therapy is provided seven days per week, three hours per day for six days a week. This includes physical, occupational and speech therapy based on the needs of those we serve.
Admission Requirements
- 18 years of age or older
- The ability to participate in 3 hours of therapy per day
- The prognosis of functional improvement
- Needing minimum of two disciplines (therapies)
- Financial eligibility
- Discharge destination as appropriate to the individual
A look at a day in the rehabilitation hospital
- Early start for evaluations and/or follow-up treatments by each discipline involved in care
- Initiate your morning routine with the assistance of nursing and therapy
- Dress for the day including shoes where appropriate
- Intensive working toward functional goals for discharge
- Scheduled three hours of therapy per day except weekends where a minimum of 3 hours across the weekend is provided
- Medical management by PM&R physician and rehabilitation nursing
- Pain Management
- Family training when appropriate
- You will be very tired at the end of the day and will need to rest in the evening and at night to prepare for the next day
