2014 Race for Our Kids event on Sunday, September 21, at 8 a.m. Baltimore, MD - Runners and walkers will put their best feet forward for the 2014 Race for Our Kids event on Sunday, September 21, at 8 a.m. in Northwest Baltimore to benefit programs and services at The Herman & Walter Samuelson Children's Hospital at Sinai. This will be the 10th year of the race, which is presented by the Sinai Hospital Auxiliary.

There is something for everyone - from elite runners to beginners. The routes for both the 5K, which is 3.1 miles, and the 10K, which is 6.2 miles, will wind through the scenic, tranquil community of Mount Washington.

The1 Mile Family Fun Walk will travel through the Levindale and Sinai Hospital campuses and is ideal for families with young children. As part of this walk, the auxiliary will host an interactive experience with lots of surprises!

All participants receive a long-sleeve technical shirt and a goody bag, and are invited to the post-race party at the finish line sponsored by The Classic Catering People. There will also be an awards ceremony after the race, and top finishers of the 10K, who meet the specified qualifications, will be eligible to divide $4,100 in cash prizes.

Runners and walkers are encouraged to create their own teams, comprised of participants and those who just want to donate to a worthy cause. Over the past nine years, the race has raised more than $750,000.

The Samuelson Children's Hospital admits more than 2,400 children and young adults every year. It offers a full range of pediatric specialty services for patients from birth to 18 years of age and older. The hospital also supports area pediatricians with the most comprehensive care of any community hospital in Maryland.

Proceeds from Race for Our Kids provide funding for all departments of the Samuelson Children's Hospital, which includes patient-assistance programs to help families with
transportation to and from treatments; medical bills not covered by insurance and prescriptions; and toys for the playroom, arts and crafts for young patients, and video games and movies for inpatient rooms. In addition, ongoing research and clinical trials are funded by the generosity of community and corporate foundations.

The registration fee is $45 for the 10K, $40 for the 5K and $30 for the 1 Mile Family Fun Walk. There is no fee for children age 5 and younger.

Race registration will be held in the Pimlico parking lot (at the corner of Northern Parkway and Preakness Way), and all participants will celebrate their finish at the post-race party at Sinai Hospital. To register online and for more information, visit www.raceforourkids.org.
