All participants receive a long-sleeve running shirt, a goody bag, and bib number with timing chip (for 5K and 10K participants). Everyone is invited to the post-race party at the finish line sponsored by The Classic Catering People. There will also be an awards ceremony after the race, and top finishers of the 10K, who meet the specified qualifications, will be eligible to divide $4,100 in cash prizes.

Runners and walkers are encouraged to create their own teams, made up of participants and those who just want to donate to a worthy cause. Over the past 10 years, the race has raised more than $930,000.

The Samuelson Children's Hospital admits more than 2,400 children and young adults every year. It offers a full range of pediatric specialty services for patients from birth to 18 years of age and older. The hospital also supports area pediatricians with the most comprehensive care of any community hospital in Maryland.

Proceeds from Race for Our Kids provide funding for programs and services at The Samuelson Children's Hospital, which includes patient-assistance programs to help families with transportation to and from treatments; medical bills not covered by insurance and prescriptions; and toys for the playroom, arts and crafts for young patients, and video games and movies for inpatient rooms. In addition, ongoing research and clinical trials are funded by the generosity of community and corporate foundations.
