Tyler Ridge, multimedia and event specialist, and registered nurse Katlynn McCormick, emergency department, were chosen as Carroll Hospital's 2020 SuperStar of the Year and Patient Safety Hero of the Year, respectively.

Ridge and McCormick received the awards at the hospital's Associate Recognition Drive Thru Celebration held at Martin's Westminster's parking lot on September 28.

A staff member for five years, Ridge was recognized for his dedication, expertise and patience in helping staff members throughout the LifeBridge Health system transition from in-person to virtual meetings during the COVID-19 pandemic, and for being flexible with his schedule to run the meetings. His efforts earned him July's SuperStar of the Month honor.

"Tyler has been an invaluable resource during this COVID-19 pandemic. Thanks to his computer expertise, flexibility and patience LifeBridge Health team members were able to communicate effectively by continuing to hold important meetings online. While this was unfamiliar territory for many, Tyler made it a smooth transition," said Garrett Hoover, president and chief operating officer at Carroll Hospital.

"I am extremely honored to have been selected as this year's SuperStar of the Year," said Ridge. "I have been blown away by everyone's teamwork, bravery and compassion during this time and am happy to do my part to assist in the hospital's mission," he added.

A registered nurse at the hospital for four years, McCormick was recognized for staying vigilant and quickly responding to a situation where help was needed. Her actions earned her September's Patient Safety Hero award and Patient Safety Hero of the Year.
"Katy is an outstanding nurse and we are very fortunate to have her among our nursing staff. By following her instincts she helped us ensure everyone's safety, which is what the Patient Safety Hero Award was designed to honor," said Lisa Rock, manager of patient safety and risk at Carroll Hospital.

"I am so very honored to even be nominated for this award, and never imagined being the winner. It is nice to be recognized for the everyday things that nurses do that can significantly impact the safety of both the patients and staff," said McCormick.

The Associate Recognition celebration is held each year to honor associates celebrating milestone years of service ranging from five to 40 years, as well as retirees and those who were named SuperStar of the Month, and Patient Safety Heroes. During the drive-thru celebration, associates were given pre-packaged dinners and service pins for their years of dedicated service. The following associates celebrated 30 or more milestone years of service:
