Sinai Hospital of Baltimore Recognized as One of the Greenest Hospitals in the CountryBaltimore, MD - Sinai Hospital of Baltimore has been named one of the 50 Greenest Hospitals in America by Becker's Hospital Review, a publication featuring business and legal news relating to hospitals.

To give this designation, Becker's looked at centers that lead by example with carbon-cutting efforts, which include ecological health, green projects and environmental management, as fundamental elements of their missions.

Sinai was specifically recognized for its part in the LifeBridge Health Freedom to Be Green Initiative, a system-wide shift to a culture of sustainability. Among its pioneering efforts are electric car charging stations on campus, cafeteria food composting, widespread recycling programs and the adoption of LED lights in hallways.

As an example, one the hospital's operating rooms recycles an average of 675 pounds of blue wrap every month. This effort has been taking place for the past five years.

"The management team and employees at Sinai Hospital understand that the health of the environment directly affects the health of our patients, their families and our community at-large," explains Peter Arn, vice president of Enterprise Development and Support Services for LifeBridge Health. "That's why we take our responsibility to continually come up with new ways to positively influence the world around us very seriously."

During the last few years, Sinai has also received an EPA Trailblazer Award, a Baltimore Business Journal Green Policy Award and several other acknowledgments from Practice Greenhealth, a nonprofit organization created to guide the health care community in developing safer, greener workplaces.
