What: With a little more than a week left until Christmas, Santa Claus’ elves are tuning up his sleigh, while he’s getting in the spirit by taking a helicopter ride to visit the kids at the Herman & Walter Samuelson Children’s Hospital at Sinai.

Before landing on the hospital’s helipad, Santa’s pilot will fly the helicopter by the windows of the Children’s Hospital so Santa can wave to the kids, and they can wave back. It’s also a big treat for parents and staff!

Once he arrives, Santa will visit kids in the inpatient unit and the emergency department, as well as those receiving treatment that day in the hematology/oncology clinic.

Santa will be delivering some special gifts to the kids – teddy bears with helicopters on their shirts.

Santa’s helicopter ride comes courtesy of STAT MedEvac, a critical care transportation provider operating 18 helicopters supporting facilities in Maryland, Pennsylvania and other areas.

When: Tuesday, December 17, 2024 – 9:30 a.m.

  • Arrive by 9:30 a.m. for helipad access, Santa scheduled to arrive at 10 a.m.
  • Media must follow all staff directions on helipad and in patient areas.
  • Window access only while chopper is landing, can step outside doors once rotors have stopped.

We will be looking for kids/families to be interviewed but will not know until the morning of Santa’s visit if a family may be willing to be interviewed.

Where: Sinai Hospital

               2401 W. Belvedere Ave., Baltimore, MD 21215

Park in the visitor lot (validation provided)

Why: Santa’s visit is one of the many activities coordinated by Sinai’s Child Life team, a group of trained specialists who work with kids and families through their illnesses, providing age-appropriate education as well as activities so kids can still feel like kids and have a sense of fun and joy.
