News

Baltimore, MD - Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey brought Circus XTREME performers to Sinai Hospital to share laughter and joy with pediatric patients and their families on Wednesday, March 16, 2016. Dedicated to giving back to local communities across the country, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey also donated $10,000 to the pediatric oncology department, part of the Herman & Walter Samuelson Children's Hospital at Sinai.

LifeBridge Health President and CEO Neil Meltzer, Sinai President and LifeBridge Health Executive Vice President Amy Perry, and the Ellen W.P. Wasserman Endowed Chair of the Samuelson Children's Hospital and the director of the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Aziza Shad, M.D., were honored to accept the donation on behalf of the patients and staff members.

Children of all ages at the Samuelson Children's Hospital playroom enjoyed performances from the ring master, dancers, clowns and contortionists. After the show, the circus gave each child a clown nose, a stuffed elephant and a goodie bag.

In addition to entertaining families, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey is also involved in a new study of its elephants' DNA for cancer research. Scientists are studying why there is such a low incidence of cancer in elephants and how this may relate to new treatments for pediatric cancers.

Across the U.S., Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey is making donations to 50 children's hospitals and treatment centers, with Ringling Bros. Children's Fundâ„¢ matching each donation with an additional $10,000 to the Primary Children's Hospital Foundation to support their Pediatric Cancer Research Program.
