LifeBridge Health Recognized for Commitment to Environment

News

Baltimore, Md. - LifeBridge Health has been honored for a third straight year with three Partner for Change Awards for its commitment to protecting the environment and human health. The awards are given each year by Practice Greenhealth for outstanding environmental achievements in the health care sector. Practice Greenhealth is a national membership organization for health care facilities dedicated to environmentally responsible operations.

LifeBridge Health centers Levindale Hebrew Geriatric Center and Hospital, Sinai Hospital and Northwest Hospital received awards for 2013. Levindale received a Partner for Change, with Distinction Award; and Sinai and Northwest hospitals received Partner for Change Awards for their programs to eliminate mercury, reduce waste and increase recycling. Levindale earned a "with Distinction" designation because it met all of the qualifications for the Partner for Change Award while also demonstrating significant progress in other target areas.

"We are very pleased to be recognized once again by Practice Greenhealth with these awards," said Peter Arn, vice president of Enterprise Development and Support Services for LifeBridge Health. "Through our Freedom to Be Green initiative, we continue to make significant strides in making LifeBridge Health a system that sets the highest standards for environmental commitment and responsibility. We would like to thank our employees for their contributions and ideas."

LifeBridge Health's commitment to fostering a systemwide culture of sustainability has continued in 2013 with programs such as cafeteria food waste composting; use of eco-friendly cleaning products; additions of plastic, paper and battery recycling bins in all staff offices; and adoption of LED lights throughout the hallways.

Most recently, LifeBridge Health added a plug-in Toyota Prius to its transportation fleet, a move that will reduce both emissions and fuel costs. LifeBridge Health has made electric car charging stations available to its employees and the community at large. There is a station in the parking lot at the Northwest Hospital Professional Center; there are also two charging stations at Sinai Hospital. Construction is underway for a charging station at Levindale.
