Kelly Roemer receives Carroll Hospital's October Patient Safety Hero Award

Registered nurse Kelly Roemer, patient care coordinator, was recently presented with Carroll Hospital's October Patient Safety Hero Award. A staff member at the hospital for 17 years, Roemer was recognized for her keen attention to detail while working in the pre-operative surgical unit.

"Kelly's attentiveness and clinical expertise make her a valuable asset to our surgical nursing team. She consistently goes above and beyond her duties to ensure that patient safety and providing high quality care are everyone's top priorities," said Lisa Rock, manager of patient safety and risk at Carroll Hospital.

Created by the Josie King Foundation, the Patient Safety Hero Award is presented to caregivers who work hard to create a culture of patient safety within their health care organization. This can be achieved through various ways including listening to patients or their family members; encouraging them to speak up and ask questions at any time; improving communication and teamwork; and addressing potential safety concerns. The award honors those who set an example for others and inspire positive change.

At Carroll Hospital, the award is given to an associate whose actions most closely meet the award's criteria, and from a year's worth of honorees, one Patient Safety Hero of the Year will be announced at an annual banquet.

Carroll Hospital, a LifeBridge Health Center, is a nonprofit, acute care facility offering the latest in medical technology, experienced medical professionals in a variety of specialties and a continuum of programs and services to meet the needs of the community.
