Helping Save Lives, Higi Health Station Opens at BWI Airport
LifeBridge Health and the American Heart Association (AHA) have launched their fourth Higi health station in the Baltimore area at Baltimore Washington International Airport (BWI), giving thousands a more convenient way to check their heart and health numbers while on the go.
The Higi health station provides biometric information like blood pressure readings and was installed at BWI as part of the American Heart Association and LifeBridge Health’s #StrongerHearts initiative. A dedication event took place on November 7, 2024.
Heart disease is the number one leading cause of death in the United States and according to the AHA, nearly half (48.1%) of Americans have hypertension and many don’t even know they have it.
The BWI Airport location was chosen because of the shared vision of LifeBridge Health and the AHA to make heart health information easy and accessible by reaching people where they are. With over 70,000 passengers coming through BWI every day, it presents the perfect opportunity to do just that.
The Higi station is a free public kiosk that allows users to check their blood pressure, pulse, weight, body composition and BMI (body mass index). After users provide some basic information about their gender, date of birth and height, they can use this powerful, convenient screening tool to track their metrics over time and share that information as they see fit.
The other Higi locations through the #StrongerHearts initiative are located at LifeBridge Health & Fitness in Pikesville which had the highest usage in 2023 of any of the approximately 20 AHA-sponsored health stations across the country. The AHA-affiliated stations at two other LifeBridge Health partner locations, the Owings Mills and Park Heights Jewish Community Centers, also respectively rank in the top five stations across the country. The number two station is Dallas Love Field Airport and number four is the Texas A&M Recreation Center.
