Gina Palmieri, R.N., receives Carroll Hospital's December Patient Safety Hero Award

News

Gina Palmieri, R.N., medical/surgical unit, was recently presented with Carroll Hospital's December Patient Safety Hero Award. A staff member at the hospital since 2018, Palmieri was recognized for identifying and correcting a potential medication issue and educating others to avoid a similar issue in the future.

"Gina's diligence, attention to detail and swiftness in intervening are prime examples of our hospital's commitment to ensuring patient safety.  Her actions are testament to why Carroll Hospital is one of the best places in Maryland to receive safe and high quality care," said Lisa Rock, manager of patient safety and risk at Carroll Hospital.

Created by the Josie King Foundation, the Patient Safety Hero Award is presented to caregivers who work hard to create a culture of patient safety within their health care organization. This can be achieved through various ways including listening to patients or their family members; encouraging them to speak up and ask questions at any time; improving communication and teamwork; and addressing potential safety concerns. The award honors those who set an example for others and inspire positive change.

At Carroll Hospital, the award is given to an associate whose actions most closely meet the award's criteria, and from a year's worth of honorees, one Patient Safety Hero of the Year will be announced at an annual banquet.

Carroll Hospital, a LifeBridge Health Center, is a nonprofit, acute care facility offering the latest in medical technology, experienced medical professionals in a variety of specialties and a continuum of programs and services to meet the needs of the community.
