Elizabeth Dibuono, R.N., medical/surgical unit, was presented with Carroll Hospital's October Patient Safety Hero Award. A hospital team member for 23 years, Dibuono was recognized for her attention to detail and commitment to patient safety.

"Beth's willingness to speak up and intervene are prime examples of her dedication to making patient safety her top priority," said Lisa Rock, manager of patient safety and risk at Carroll Hospital.

Created by the Josie King Foundation, the Patient Safety Hero Award is presented to caregivers who work hard to create a culture of patient safety within their health care organization. This can be achieved through various ways including listening to patients or their family members; encouraging them to speak up and ask questions at any time; improving communication and teamwork; and addressing potential safety concerns. The award honors those who set an example for others and inspire positive change.

At Carroll Hospital, the award is given to a team member whose actions most closely meet the award's criteria, and from a year's worth of honorees, one Patient Safety Hero of the Year will be announced at an annual banquet.

Carroll Hospital, a LifeBridge Health Center, is a nonprofit, acute care facility offering the latest in medical technology, experienced medical professionals in a variety of specialties and a continuum of programs and services to meet the needs of the community.
