Dr. Michael Schultz to Join LifeBridge Health

News

Baltimore, MD - LifeBridge Health is proud to announce that one of Maryland's marquee surgeons, Michael Schultz, M.D., will join the organization in the new year as part of LifeBridge Health's ongoing efforts to recruit and retain premier physicians from Maryland and beyond.

"To have Dr. Schultz as part of the LifeBridge Health family is great news for our patients and our entire organization," says Neil Meltzer, president and CEO of LifeBridge Health. "Dr. Schultz is genuinely beloved by his patients and, in more than four decades in practice, has earned a stellar reputation for his medical expertise, surgical skills and compassion."

Meltzer adds, "This is a homecoming for Dr. Schultz who completed his residency at our Sinai Hospital of Baltimore. He then spent nearly 30 years at both Sinai and Northwest hospitals, including practicing with two of our other premier surgeons, Dr. Marc Gertner and Dr. Gary Hamamoto."

Dr. Schultz comes to LifeBridge Health from the University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center where he was the medical director of the Breast Care Center. He is a lifelong Marylander, leaving for several years for his pre-med studies at Princeton University before returning to attend the University of Maryland School of Medicine, followed by his residency at Sinai.

"After working in several surgical areas, Dr. Schultz found his true calling with a specialization in breast cancer care, where he has become renowned among his peers and has inspired deep loyalty among his patients," says Matthew Poffenroth, M.D., senior vice president and chief physician executive at LifeBridge Health. "We are thrilled to have Dr. Schultz join our amazing team of surgeons at LifeBridge Health."

As part of LifeBridge Health's breast care team, Dr. Schultz will join with Dr. Dona Hobart, who has been a driving force in raising LifeBridge Health's profile in this area.

Dr. Schultz will begin seeing patients at LifeBridge Health in January 2021. His practice will be located in LifeBridge Health's Quarry Lake offices and his surgeries will be done at LifeBridge Health hospitals. Dr. Schultz cites his decades of residency teaching as one of the reasons that he is eager to return to LifeBridge Health.
