Dr. Henry Sun Named Director of LifeBridge Health Cardiovascular Institute
Baltimore – LifeBridge Health has announced that interventional cardiologist Henry Sun, M.D., has been promoted to director of the LifeBridge Health Cardiovascular Institute (CVI), a multidisciplinary center offering comprehensive care for a full range of heart and vascular illnesses as well as conducting leading-edge cardiac research.
“Dr. Sun is an accomplished cardiologist and skilled administrator, who has proven himself to be a collaborative leader and strategic thinker. He is well respected by his colleagues, and having spent his entire career in Maryland, his knowledge of our state’s unique reimbursement system and established professional relationships with peers at other health systems, as well as his understanding of LifeBridge Health and the CVI itself, will be key assets in this new role,” says Matthew Poffenroth, M.D., chief physician executive and senior vice president at LifeBridge Health. Dr. Poffenroth is also president of LifeBridge Health Medical Group.
Dr. Sun joined LifeBridge Health in July 2021 and, in addition to his clinical practice, serves as associate director of the cardiac catheterization labs. He previously worked at University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center and MidAtlantic Cardiovascular Associates. After graduating from the University of Texas Medical Branch with his medical degree, he completed his internal medicine and cardiology training at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Sun is also completing his Master of Business Administration from the Johns Hopkins Carey School of Business.
“Our mission at the Cardiovascular Institute is to deliver outstanding cardiac care to the diverse communities we serve across the Baltimore, Carroll, Harford regions and beyond through a spirit of collaboration, with emphasis on compassion, integrity, innovation and excellence. I am excited for the opportunity to bring all of our talents and energy together under one umbrella, to learn from each other and continue to bring the best for our patients,” says Dr. Sun.
He adds, “I am fortunate to work with talented and passionate healthcare professionals throughout the LifeBridge Health system. Within cardiac services, we have wide-ranging expertise in complex coronary interventions, thrombosis research, structural heart disease, advanced electrophysiology therapies, heart failure and surgical care. I look forward to building on this foundation of excellence in both patient care and research.”
