Christopher Kwon, M.D., Named Division Head of Cardiac Surgery at the LifeBridge Health Cardiovascular Institute

News

Baltimore, MD - LifeBridge Health is proud to announce that Christopher Kwon, M.D., is the new division head of Cardiac Surgery at the LifeBridge Health Cardiovascular Institute, an integrated inpatient and outpatient program dedicated to preventing, treating and improving patient outcomes in heart disease, vascular disease and stroke.

Kwon has extensive experience in performing minimally invasive heart valve surgeries, using small incisions for procedures that traditionally required cutting open the breastbone. With the less invasive methods, surgeons enter through spaces between a patient's ribs to reach the valves, but then use similar techniques to conventional valve replacement and repair. These less invasive methods can improve patient comfort, reduce scarring and pave the way for quicker recovery.

The LifeBridge Health Cardiovascular Institute provides advanced patient-centered care and conducts groundbreaking cardiovascular research, and Kwon's skills and leadership will enhance the already wide-ranging services and treatments.

Kwon received his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine; completed his general surgery residency at University of Hospitals of Cleveland, Case Western; and finished his thoracic surgery fellowship at Yale-New Haven Hospital, Yale University.

He comes to LifeBridge Health after serving as chief of staff and director of cardiothoracic surgery at Havasu Regional Medical Center in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. Kwon is a member of several professional organizations including the American College of Surgeons and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.

Kwon is also published in the Journal of Vascular Surgery and he lectures on topics including the evolution of thoracic aortic aneurysm surgery.
