Carroll Hospital Honors Volunteers at Annual Volunteer Recognition Drive Thru Celebration
To thank volunteers for their dedication, compassionate care and exceptional work, Carroll Hospital held a "Volunteer Parade of Sunshine" on September 22 near the hospital's South Pavilion entrance.
During the parade, volunteers drove through the hospital's campus lot from the Center Street entrance to the circle near the South Pavilion entrance. Along the route volunteers were greeted by associates, as well as hospital and volunteer leaders, including Garrett Hoover, Carroll Hospital's president and COO; Ellen Finnerty Myers, Carroll Hospital's chief development officer and vice president of corporate development; Karen Durilla, Carroll Hospital Auxiliary president; and Stephanie Reid, Carroll Hospital's chief nursing officer and vice president of patient care services.
Onlookers greeted volunteers holding signs while waving and shouting "thank you" to recognize volunteers for their outstanding work. Volunteers were also given special gifts and recognition for the hours served in 2019 at Carroll Hospital. The traditional volunteer recognition event is held in April, during National Volunteer Week; however, it was canceled due to the pandemic restrictions.
"It was heartwarming to see associates greet the volunteers and let them know they have been
missed during the pandemic. In talking with the volunteers during the celebration, it was clear
they were eager to return to their volunteer duties, their hospital friends and that wonderful feeling of giving back to the community," said Durilla.
After a three-month hiatus that began in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, some of the hospital's volunteers have returned to resume their work assisting in the hospital's departments and retail shops.
Carroll Hospital has more than 270 adult volunteers. In 2019, volunteers worked nearly 63,000 service hours.
