Albert (Ernie) Long receives Carroll Hospital's Patient Safety Hero Award

News

Albert (Ernie) Long, safety and security supervisor, recently received Carroll Hospital's Patient Safety Hero Award as well as the LifeBridge Health Security Officer of the Quarter award. A team member at the hospital for seven years, Long was nominated for his attentiveness and swift intervention to prevent a patient from being severely injured.

"Ernie's quick response with this patient is yet another example of his dedication to his job and value to our security team. He always makes sure that everyone who walks through the door of the hospital is provided with a safe and secure experience," said Tim Black, security site director at Carroll Hospital.

Created by the Josie King Foundation, the Patient Safety Hero Award is presented to caregivers who work hard to create a culture of patient safety within their healthcare organization. This can be achieved through various ways including listening to patients or their family members; encouraging them to speak up and ask questions at any time; improving communication and teamwork; and addressing potential safety concerns. The award honors those who set an example for others and inspire positive change.

At Carroll Hospital, the award is given to a team member whose actions most closely meet the award's criteria, and from a year's worth of honorees, one Patient Safety Hero of the Year will be announced at an annual celebration.

The LifeBridge Health Security Officer of the Quarter award is given each quarter to a security officer from each LifeBridge Health facility to recognize his or her outstanding actions and/or performance.

Carroll Hospital, a LifeBridge Health Center, is a nonprofit, acute care facility offering the latest in medical technology, experienced medical professionals in a variety of specialties and a continuum of programs and services to meet the needs of the community.
