Personalized Maternity Care in a Comfortable Setting
At Carroll Hospital, we are dedicated to providing a supportive and comfortable birthing experience. Our private birthing suites are designed to provide many of the comforts of home while you bring a new child into the world. Each spacious room features:
- A private bathroom
- A sofa bed to accommodate one support person overnight
- A television that also offers obstetrics (OB) education programming
- A large picture window for natural light
- The convenience of staying in the same room throughout your stay
Our Labor, Delivery, Recovery and Postpartum (LDRP) suites look and feel much like a hotel suite, with all of the necessary medical equipment tastefully concealed behind artwork and custom cabinetry. Within moments, your LDRP suite becomes a delivery room that promotes a safe delivery and monitors the health of both mother and baby.
For your convenience, all of your care is provided in this same suite. Even after your baby is born, a pediatrician will examine him or her right in your room to allow you to observe and ask questions.
Neonatal Couplet Care Suites
Carroll Hospital is the first hospital in the Mid-Atlantic and the second hospital in the nation to offer Neonatal Couplet Care Suites, a groundbreaking approach that allows moms to room with babies who are born prematurely or require specialized care, even after the mom is discharged.

Developed by the Karolinska Institute in Sweden, couplet care has shown that keeping mothers and newborns together promotes healthier results for the whole family:

- Stronger bonding for the whole family

Designed for Babies as Early as 32 Weeks
In addition to being born prematurely, there are many reasons why a baby may need to spend extra time at the hospital, including low birth weight, jaundice, respiratory difficulties or cardiac concerns. Our expert team of board-certified, in-house pediatricians and specially trained nurses will work with your family every step of the way to give your baby the best possible start.
Prenatal Education Programs
Carroll Hospital offers a complete selection of live online prenatal education programs to support you from pregnancy to parenthood. Classes cover your birth experience, breastfeeding, baby care and more. Visit the BabyLive Advice website to review and register for these free classes.
OB Navigation Services
Carroll Hospital’s OB navigators are here to support you on your pregnancy journey. These licensed clinical social workers provide education and resources to individuals who are registered to deliver at Carroll Hospital or have given birth in the past year.
Pregnant people expecting their first baby will receive a call from an OB navigator shortly after they begin their prenatal care to assess their need for pregnancy-related resources and to provide the opportunity to ask questions. Expecting mothers will also be called shortly before their due dates to see whether they have any questions or needs.
How OB Navigators Can Help:
- Offer guidance on achieving a healthy pregnancy and newborn care.
- Connect you with community resources designed for pregnant people and infants.
- Provide education on avoiding drugs, alcohol and tobacco, and offer referrals to supportive programs.
- Assist with mental health concerns, including depression and anxiety.
- Support and educate about postpartum depression and early intervention.
- Provide assistance for those in abusive relationships.
- Address any pregnancy-related concerns and provide counseling.
- Offer support and referrals for individuals who have experienced pregnancy loss.
OB navigators are available Monday through Thursday. For more information, please call 410-871-7403 or email chcobnavigator@lifebridgehealth.org.
