We CARE BRAVELY & Stand with Ukraine
LifeBridge Health was founded over a century and a half ago as Sinai Hospital out of necessity and in response to religious and ethnic persecution abroad and at home. Early leaders of our organization were members of the Jewish community with many having ancestry in the nations of Eastern Europe currently embroiled in this tragic conflict. Their migration was often the result of threats to their families, livelihoods and human rights, and it is this set of collective experiences which have helped to evolve LifeBridge Health into a uniquely empathetic organization. These same experiences are also the reason why we feel compelled to speak on the current state of Eastern Europe.

Baltimore itself served as an entry point to many ethnic Ukrainians and Russians as they immigrated to the United States for a newfound life. Philip H. Goodman, the 42nd Mayor of Baltimore, was born in the Volvyn Oblast region, and Joseph Meyerhoff, noted businessman and philanthropist, emigrated from Ukraine as a young boy. Like many of our own team members, they sought relief for themselves, their families and communities - a trait common to the care we provide and one engrained in us as we come together and care for those who need it most.
Today, as we witness neighborhoods attacked and families fleeing with their few belongings, we cannot and should not, remain silent when our very mission is to build healthier communities. As caregivers, we look to bring hope and healing to team members and families impacted by the violence.
Over the coming days and weeks, leadership will be working with our Employee Resource Groups to find ways to support the Ukrainian fight for freedom and offer support to team members, families or refugees impacted by the violence or who need resources, support and shelter in the United States or elsewhere. Additionally, our Supply Chain team is actively investigating ways that we can send medical supplies and equipment to Ukraine and surrounding countries to support care for those who have been affected by this turmoil.
I am proud of every single person in our LifeBridge Health family and your dedication to each other and our communities. We must continue to treat each other with the utmost respect, empathy and the humanity that we all share. And, as always when we are faced with adversity, we will continue to CARE BRAVELY for all as we have throughout our history - it's in our DNA.
