Support Survivors: October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Blogs

Domestic Violence Awareness Month is observed every October to raise awareness about domestic violence, provide support to survivors

Every October, communities across the country come together to raise awareness about domestic violence, an issue that affects people from all walks of life. This month is dedicated to standing with survivors, honoring the memory of those we've lost and taking meaningful action to prevent future violence.

The national #Every1KnowsSome1 campaign reminds us that domestic violence is more widespread than we might think. Most of us know someone affected, whether we realize it or not. At LifeBridge Health, we’re committed to raising awareness, offering support and ensuring that healthcare providers play a key role in connecting survivors with the resources they need.

On October 9, we’ll observe Health Cares About Domestic Violence Day with tabling events at Sinai Hospital, Northwest Hospital (DOVE), Carroll Hospital and Grace Medical Center. These events will provide an opportunity to connect with staff, patients and visitors, while spotlighting how our team helps those experiencing abuse. From identifying warning signs to providing direct assistance, we are here to ensure help is always within reach.

What Domestic Violence Really Looks Like

When we think of domestic violence, physical assault may be the first thing that comes to mind. But domestic violence, or intimate partner violence, can also include emotional abuse, financial control and psychological manipulation. It’s about one person exerting power and control over another, and it can happen to anyone, regardless of their circumstances. Raising awareness of all forms of domestic violence helps empower survivors to seek the support they need to break free.
