Six Finalists Make LifeBridge Health-CareFirst Innovation Challenge

With just one week until the LifeBridge Health and CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield Innovation Challenge, we are thrilled to share the profiles of the six finalists who will be pitching their ideas for a chance to change healthcare and win $50,000 as well as partner with a leading payer and provider in the region.

Emerging from more than 100 digital startups that entered the competition, the finalists will present their ideas next week to a panel of industry experts ("Shark Tank" style) at the LifeBridge Health/CareFirst Payvider Innovation Summit, taking place Wednesday, June 5 from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at CareFirst Headquarters in Baltimore.

DOCKET

Scrambling to track down your immunization records will be a thing of the past if Docket has its way. This New York City startup is partnering with public healthcare agencies to expand access for individuals to immunization records using a design that focuses on human behavior and simple QR codes.


KERMIT

Improving patient care while reducing hospital costs is an ongoing priority, and digital healthcare startup Kermit, of Timonium, Maryland, has created an analytics platform with real-time data on implantable medical device transactions that could save hospitals millions of dollars.


NEST COLLABORATIVE

Based in Baltimore, Nest Collaborative seeks to improve maternal-child health by expanding access to "telelactation" and affordable, board-certified breast-feeding experts. Nest leverages an evidence-based model of proactive and prevention-based clinical support that collaborates with mother and baby's primary care team.


PILLEVE

Based in Washington, D.C., Pilleve seeks to tackle to opioid crisis with technology. Combining a wide range of technologies, Pilleve is creating a way to monitor patients' medication intake and behaviors as well as help them with pain management to avoid opioid misuse and abuse.


RUBITECTION

Rubitection, a startup out of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, is seeking to develop a system for caregivers and healthcare professionals to detect bedsores as early as possible, prevent further skin breakdowns and minimize infections.


SOCIALLY DETERMINED

Socially Determined, out of Washington, D.C., found that social determinants (hence the name) drive 50 percent of health outcomes. This startup plans to design targeted community-based intervention programs to improve healthcare in struggling communities with advanced analytics and data science.


The Innovation Challenge - Next Steps

After the finalists make their pitches to the judging panel at the June 5 summit, the panel will deliberate and announce the winner(s) that same day!
