JEDI Champion of the Year: Ayesha Fowler
JEDI Champions are LifeBridge Health team members who go above and beyond to represent the values of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. Our JEDI Champion of 2022 is Ayesha Fowler, patient experience and advocacy manager at Grace Medical Center, and co-chair of LifeBridge Health’s Black Culture Employee Resource Group. Q1. How long have you been with LifeBridge Health and what is your current role?
My current role is Patient Experience and Advocacy Manager at Grace Medical Center. I transitioned from legacy Bon Secours in 2019. I was employed at Bon Secours for 22 years and have been with Grace Medical Center for three years.
Q2. You bring so much passion into the work you do…what motivates you?
My passion is to advocate for underserved communities and marginalized groups. As an advocate, I research and solve difficult problems by providing support to patients and my team. As manager of patient experience, I am an empathetic and compassionate leader. I understand that good leadership is rooted in good relationships. My emotional intelligence and positive energy naturally draw people in and encourage them to step outside of their comfort zone. I try to be direct without being disparaging, confident without being pretentious, and fun without being frivolous. I am motivated to inspire people, connecting them back to purpose. My passion is to lead people back to their “why”. When this happens, we find passion and purpose in the work we do.
Q3. As Co-Chair of the Black Culture Employee Resource Group, what are some of your aspirations for the ERG?
My aspiration is for BCERG to serve as a tool that governs effective and impactful change. I would like to see BCERG promote equity and equality within LifeBridge Health system. To solve a problem, you need to understand it. BCERG works to promote a culture where everyone can bring their full authentic selves to work and belong. My goal is to maximize awareness, promote networking, sponsor cultural events, leadership development and foster innovation and professional activities.
Q4. Since your transition to LifeBridge, what have you found most rewarding?
Serving as Co-Chair of BCERG has been one of the most rewarding. I can connect with leaders and employees on all campuses and make a difference.
