Why We Care
LifeBridge Health has rich history of caring for the community and putting the needs of the community members that they serve as a top priority. In the health system’s 2024 community health needs assessment, respondents named gun violence, neighborhood safety and gun safety among their top health-related concerns. In June 2024, the surgeon general declared firearm violence to be a public health crisis.
LifeBridge Health has worked to prevent gun violence and support those community members who have been affected by gun violence through Center for Hope. Gun violence continues to be a major problem across the nation. Guns are now the #1 killer of children and teens. As a health system, it was time to take action in order to bring more awareness to this problem. Therefore, we launched the Stop the Iron Pipeline Campaign to stop the trafficking of illegal guns up the I-95 corridor.
See below for numerous resources, facts and figures surrounding gun violence in our communities.
