Why: The Pimlico Middle Grades Health Sciences Program is a three-year program at Pimlico Elementary/Middle School and administered in partnership with LifeBridge Health, Sinai Hospital and Baltimore City Schools. The partnership provides students an opportunity to take advanced science classes, helping to prepare them towards a career path in a medical or health-related field. Pimlico Elementary/Middle School is operated by the Baltimore Curriculum Project.

The program launched virtually in the 2020/2021 school year due to the COVID pandemic. This is the first full academic year for the program with in-person visits, classes and tours.

Students now participate in experiential learning through field trips to Sinai Hospital and receive school visits from medical and non-medical staff, who share demonstrations, lectures, and other hands-on learning opportunities. Along with Dr. Makadia and Ms. Kintslinger, other speakers this academic year include a pediatrician, psychiatrist and facilities vice president. In February, the students will get “Stop the Bleed” training.

A group of students visited Sinai Hospital in October and toured in the Emergency Department and the Children’s Hospital.
