“Helene King Day” Celebrates Beloved Media Relations Colleague by Giving Back to Kids at the Samuelson Children’s Hospital at Sinai

LifeBridge Health to hand out approximately 300 Squishmallows on Helene’s birthday - aiming to spread some of the joy and sparkle that she inspired

What: Created to honor the memory and legacy of a dear member of the LifeBridge Health public relations and marketing team, the Helene King Fund for Kids celebrates the positive and giving spirit of Helene King, who brought joy to all those who knew her.

On her birthday (Tuesday, March 5), LifeBridge Health will hand out around 300 of the very popular Squishmallows to children both in the hospital and those receiving outpatient treatment, as well as those in the emergency department, Rubin Institute for Advanced Orthopedics and Greenspring Pediatrics practice.

The Child Life team recommended Squishmallows as a gift from Helene’s fund that would appeal to kids of all ages. Squishmallows are soft, cuddly round stuffed toys with more than 1,000 characters with unique names and stories.

Some of the children will receive the now hard-to-find “Helene” Squishmallow – a smiling sloth with the phrase “MAKE ‘today’ GREAT” on its tummy, a fitting tribute to a woman who had a sparkle and genuine interest in everyone she met. There are also some “King Crab” Squishmallows as well as a variety of other characters.

In addition to her warm and giving nature, Helene also loved kids. She had a particular fondness for the LifeBridge Health programs that supported children and families, ensuring that kids could still be kids even while they were facing illness.

With that understanding, the Helene King Fund for Kids was created after Helene’s passing in November 2021. Since then, the fund has raised more than $18,000 to support the Herman & Walter Samuelson Children’s Hospital at Sinai.

In her 20+ years at LifeBridge Health, Helene became a trusted and beloved contact for many members of the media. She also had many friends from her days as producer and executive producer at local television stations, including WBAL-TV and WJZ-TV.
