Division of Surgical Critical Care at Sinai Hospital

The Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU), a part of the Division of Critical Care at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore provides care for the sickest patients on the surgical services. The Surgical Intensive Care Unit treats patients from many surgical specialties: general surgery, surgical and gynecological oncology, neurosurgery, trauma, orthopedics and orthopedic oncology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, otolaryngology and urology. Surgical intensivists, who are board-certified in Surgery with added qualifications in Surgical Critical Care, direct an integrated multidisciplinary team of nurse practitioners, physician assistants, SICU nurses, respiratory therapists, nutritionists and social workers. This results in optimal patient outcomes and meets the Society of Critical Care Medicine’s goal of delivering the “Right Care, Right Now.” Though patients receive state-of-the-art care using the latest technology, patient and family communication and support remain a priority for our staff.
