Children's Hospital at Sinai Pediatric Residency Program - Call Schedule

Call Schedule

Interns/PGY-1

Inpatient Departments (Inpatient Floor, NICU and Nursery) – Interns alternate short and long days, with short days lasting ~10hrs and long days ~13hrs.  In the NICU and Nursery interns work two 12hr shifts on two Saturdays and two Sundays per month.

Night Float – A total of one month over the course of the year, separated into two two-week blocks.

Electives - Interns cross cover on the weekends on the general inpatient floor approximately two to three twelve-hour shifts total over the course of the rotation.

PGY-2 and PGY-3 Residents

Night Float – A total of one month over the course of the year, separated into two two-week blocks.

General Inpatient Floor – Residents rotating on the inpatient floor take call approximately every sixth or seventh night during the inpatient rotation months.

Intensive Care Units – Residents take call on average every fourth night

Electives – Residents cross-cover for 12hrs, approximately two Sundays a month

One month each year is protected as “jeopardy” resident on-call for every resident.

The call schedules are fully compliant with all ACGME duty hour regulations including maximum shift lengths for PGY-1 residents, required call free/duty free periods and maximum hours worked per week for all residents.
