A Message from the Program Director

Dear Applicant:

As the Program Director of the Johns Hopkins University/Sinai Hospital Program in Internal Medicine, I encourage you to learn more about our residency programs in categorical and preliminary medicine.

We are one of three Johns Hopkins University sponsored Internal Medicine training programs and offer 15 three-year Categorical positions and 12 one year preliminary medicine positions each year. Our goal is to prepare categorical residents for every aspect of a career in internal medicine whether one chooses to pursue primary care, subspecialty medicine, academia, or work as a hospitalist. Our preliminary medicine residents pursue training in a variety of medical fields including anesthesia, ophthalmology, neurology, rehabilitation, radiology, among other disciplines.

A hallmark of our program is the individualized attention given to each resident while he or she is exposed to a wide range of clinical services and educational opportunities.  Our program has been tailored to meet your specific and individual needs, whether you are here for one or three years.

Sinai Hospital, where the internal medicine core program is based, is the third largest teaching hospital and the largest community teaching hospital in Maryland. We serve a diverse patient population from all socioeconomic groups representing urban, suburban, and rural populations. Our tertiary care programs enjoy a regional reputation for excellence, and members of the teaching faculty are committed to our resident’s education.

The program’s comprehensive curriculum ensures that all areas of general and subspecialty medicine are covered during our clinical rotations, core lecture series, urgent/emergent lectures, issues in medicine series or subspecialty related conferences. All conferences and teaching rounds are led by Johns Hopkins/Sinai faculty.

I’m confident that you will want to visit Baltimore once you know more about our program and I look forward to meeting you. I invite you to visit the other listed topics on this website to gain further insight and a better understanding of exactly what our residency program can offer to you.  I know you will be pleased.
